IMPACT OF COVID 19 ON PUBLIC TRANSPORT

COVID-19 has brought so many impacts in yy day life. Some of them are problems which I am facing when I am using public transport.

Cities across the country have had to enforce massive restrictions on public transport to stop the transmission of the virus. Public transport is now only 50% capacity and we have been advised to be two passengers on a seat of 4, as a result, we pay a lot of money to make up the capacity. In addition to that, there are some passengers who refuse to put on masks, and they talk to each other thoughout the journey which is very bad. I also observe others putting up the masks on the chin leaving the mouth and nose uncovered.

IMPACT OF THE PANDEMIC ON MY WORK

This pandemic has also affected my work. I am not working my normal hours, for instance instead of teaching 8 hours per day I only teach 4 hours which is not beneficial to learners. Lucky enough I haven’t lost my job and am still working, though not remotely. I still go to my working place daily. At my working place, things have changed completely for instance learners are not performing well in class due to shifts.

COVID-19 IMPACT ON SCHOOLS

So many problems are being faced in schools. We used to chat with each other when we arrive at 7.am but today we can stay a month without seeing our colleagues because of shifts. Some come in the morning and at 10 am they are gone, others arrive at 10 and at 3 pm they are gone. So, we are missing each other.

But also in regard to the students, they are spending fewer hours learning and the time is not enough for them and even for us teachers to cover the work that is planned in a term is difficult and is basically impossible.

We have so many problems, but we are worrying that our students will not perform well and may not end up doing well in future because it is difficult for a teacher to cover all the work that is planned in 4 hours when it usually takes 8 hours. We are facing a lot of problems in our workplace.

IMPACT OF COVID 19 IN MY HOME ROUTINE

In addition to that, my home has been affected too in the sense that finding food is a problem. My children sometimes don’t go to school due to this pandemic and learning from home through online systems are very tough and expensive. When we are at home we spend more time cleaning since this pandemic needs cleanliness for a person to be protected.

SOCIALISING WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY

Despite the pandemic, I socialise with my friends at times. I stay at home most of the time with my kids. During this time I make sure that everyone has put on masks and be at a 1-metre distance from each other, I also advise my colleagues to wash hands frequently using soap.
