Iron Man: COVID-19 driving food prices up

COVID -19 has impacted me and my family. Before COVID -19 it was my first priority to have enough food at home but now it’s not easy to have enough food at home because things are very expensive. If you want to have enough food at home you need to struggle. Before COVID-19 I was able to eat meat and chicken 3 days a week, but at this point in time, I have forced myself to only eat it once a week for the sake of saving money.

And am quite sure my diet is less healthy than it was before the pandemic because of some of the compromises I have to make for the sake of saving money. I have been forced to start a vegetable garden at home because vegetables are very expensive. I decided to do this for the sake of maintaining my health.

I would like to use Labour Day as an example of how the pandemic has impacted our lives and the way we eat. Before the coming of this pandemic of COVID-19, honestly, things were good.  On Labour Day I used to visit friends and we would celebrate together and even have a party. I would always prepare good food like sausages, beef, chicken, fruit, vegetables and different juices. This year I can’t afford to do any of this because the costs are high.

I am quite sure my access to protein has changed and I force myself to only eat meat once a week now because meat and chicken are very expensive. Even vegetables are very expensive, and it is not easy to have enough fruits and meat. We don’t eat fruit every day anymore because it is too expensive.

I spend more time cooking for the sake of saving money. I cannot buy takeaways because it is very expensive. With the coming of this pandemic, my diet is less healthy. I no longer have enough meat or fruit in my diet because the costs are high. If you want to buy something, you need to spend a lot of money and if you want to have something that is good and healthy, you need to spend a lot of money.
