Food security has been challenging as jobs have been lost and prices have increased as well which has made it worse than it was prior to the pandemic. My diet is less diverse but I try to change now and then. I haven’t started a food garden due to a lack of space where I stay at the moment, but I’m keen to have one. It would help me because food prices have gone up due to the increase in fuel costs in the country. I don’t shop now the way I did before COVID-19 and sometimes, during lockdown Level 5-3 I was forced to skip meals.
Meat is very expensive now so I only get to eat meat twice a month, or if I am attending civil society meetings. Luckily I do have access to fresh fruit and vegetables, though I can’t keep them for long because I buy from street vendors and they don’t have cool storage for their stock. It needs to be eaten fast or it goes bad.
Because of unemployment and price increases, I don’t buy takeaways anymore. Yes I have adapted to home cooking, so in a way, my diet is more healthy now than it was when I was eating takeaways.
